This has been a busy last couple of weeks for product news, and none of it has been particularly encouraging! But for those of you wondering what’s up with that Great New Thing you want but can’t get, here is the latest:

The Canon 24-70 (version 1) is now officially discontinued and sold out by Canon Canada, so there are no more coming. Ever. The version 2 is a few months away from launch, and will be a tidy $2500 (that’s about $1000 more than the first version). Those of you looking for a (cheaper) alternative may want to look at the 24-105/F4 L, which is in stock and is a great lens.

For people looking for the Canon 5D Mk III, Canon has stopped shipments of it while they decide what to do about the apparent “light leak” issue. This is a very minor issue (in many cases, it doesn’t even qualify as an issue at all), so if you wanted one before, you should probably not worry and pick one up while there is still some available stock. We currently have bodies and kits in stock. Call us if you have any questions about the issue with the 5D Mk III.

On the Nikon side of things, the D800 and D4 remain very scarce. To say these bodies are trickling in would be optimistic. There are rumours of production problems, but there is also the unwelcome fact that Canada is not a priority for Nikon right now. There are shortages worldwide, but they seem worse here than in most places. If you are thinking you will want one of these bodies anytime this summer, I would suggest you get on the list as soon as possible. Supposedly shipments were to have picked up in mid-April, but if anything they have slowed down. Nikon Canada and Photo Central both thank you for your patience!

To end on a positive note, some new products have arrived recently, including the PocketWizard Plus III transceiver, the Canon 600EX-RT flash, and somewhat ironically, the Nikon MB-D12 vertical grip (for the D800!).

If you want info on any of the above, you know where to find us!

Regards,

Andrew

As we sat down to prepare this blog post for you we realized that we just have so many options for you to choose from when it comes to photofinishing that we had to break it down into a 2 part series.

In our previous post we talked about how important preserving your wedding memories are because they won’t be for just this lifetime – but they will be passed down from generation to generation. We went over our digital process.

Today we are going to talk about some additional options we have for you here at Photo Central in Winnipeg, such as our printing, mounting and framing.

Fine Art Print Lab
If you are seeking professional grade prints, photo rag papers, or prints larger than 8×12, you should consider of our fine art print lab. Photo Central is very proud of this option for you. It is operated by printing expert Chris Insull. Although Chris also serves as the manager of Photo Central, he and his team take special care to create the amazing pieces of art in our fine art print lab because he cares that much about your memories.

Our fine art print lab offers you the ability to create black and white photos, as well as colour photos as large as 40×60 inches. We can also help you turn your wedding photos into a gallery-type collection – providing you with the most amazing ways for you to display your wedding photos.

We pay special attention to your wedding photos, and help you decide on the best possible way to display them – as not every paper type is suitable for every image. We offer canvas, metallic, watercolour style photo rags and high quality pearl surfaces. Although we mostly default to Ilford’s Smooth Gallery series of paper, we also offer the following types of fine art papers for our wedding photography photofinishing techniques:

  • Hahnemuhle Photo Rag
  • Hahnemuhle German Etching
  • Hahnemuhle William Turner
  • Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl
  • Hahnemuhle Bamboo
  • Ilford Gold Fibre Silk
  • Canon Fine Art Canvas

Once you have decided on the type of paper and the type of print you desire for your wedding photos, we can also offer assistance with mounting, laminating and framing, to ensure that your photos are displayed in the most magnificent way possible.

Your wedding will be a moment you will treasure for the rest of your life. What better way to remember your special day than by surrounding yourself with the photos that captured the tender moments with your spouse, family, and friends.

However, it is important that you don’t trust your photofinishing with just anyone. After all, these photos won’t be just keepsakes for this lifetime, but will be passed down from one generation to the next. It is important to know that no matter what you desire for your photofinishing, Photo Central of Winnipeg has you covered.

Quite often, we’re looking at strictly digital services. There is so much fun to be had!

Digital Prints

Now that you are home from your honeymoon, and have received your wedding photos back from the photographer, you now have to decide what to do with them.  Photo Central is proud of the work they can accomplish with your standard wedding photos, turning them into memorable works of art – as they should be.Our wedding photography photofinishing services involve digital printing expert knowledge.  If your wedding photos are saved to a digital file, such as a CD, flash drive, or memory card, we can print them in any size.  The most commonly printed sizes include 4×6, 5×7, 8×10 and 8×12, which can be accomplished in our Noritsu dry lab.   We also have the ability to print custom size photos from digital mediums, if these sizes do not fit your needs.  So basically, whatever your needs are, we can make it happen.
