Lightroom Level 1
Making Adobe Lightroom Work for You
Adobe Lightroom is a wonderful product for editing and organizing your image files. However, people can sometimes make a muddle of their Lightroom experience by trying to make things too complicated, or trying to use the software in ways it was never intended to be used.
This course will introduce students to the basics of Adobe Lightroom. Our intent is for you to have a firm understanding of the concepts and proper process of using Lightroom, so that you can think less about the program and more about your images. In this course, we will take you on a journey, from the moment your image file (picture) is taken to the end point in Lightroom, where it will be properly catalogued and edited, ready to be printed or sent to Photoshop for a more extreme makeover. Whether you have used Lightroom before, or if it is completely new to you, we promise you will find this course informative.

Composition Level 1
What Am I Looking For, and Why?
Everyday, we see thousands of images. Advertisements, books, magazines, billboards, television, computers - all these mediums and more inundate us with images on a constant basis. In fact, we see so many images each day, we have almost become numb to them, hardly seeing them as they rush by our eyes and minds. It is no wonder then that so many of us as photographers have a hard time knowing what actually makes a good image - what rules of thumb to follow, what dynamics to look for, what elements to keep or discard. There was a time not that long ago that images were a rare sight, and people would inevitably stop to look at those they saw. But with today's technology able to produce and reproduce pictures on demand, it takes a certain discipline to stop and appreciate what we are looking at.
This course will unravel some of the mystique behind what we like to call "composition" by looking at various photographs (including your own, if you are so inclined!), and in fine detail discuss the many elements - good or bad - that are present. You will learn some basic rules of thumb, but even more importantly you will learn why those rules exist and why we look at images the way we do. This course is appropriate for both beginners and experienced photographers alike.
As much of the material in this course is subjective, and as personal photographs may be up for critique, we ask that you remember at all times to respect your fellow classmates and their opinions. Thank you.
The cost of the course is $125.00 plus GST. Please stay tuned for upcoming dates.
** Though not a requirement, students are certainly encouraged to bring their own printed images to the course. Alternately, digital images on a memory card or flash drive can be used as well. Please ensure the images are 8x10 or larger. Photo Central will have a special processing discount for course members.
